DUSHANBE, June 15, 2011, Asia-Plus – Today, June 15, deputies of the lower chamber of Tajikistan’s parliament have approved the Government’s amendments to the Criminal Code of Tajikistan.

Tajik Minister of Interior Abdurahim Kaharov said that according to the amendments, organizers of illegal religious education facilities of extremist character will face criminal actions.

He said that organizers of the aforementioned facilities will face terms in prison from 5 to 12 years. Additionally, according to the newly approved amendments to the Criminal Code of Tajikistan, organizers and active participants of illegal meetings, protests, demonstrations and peaceful marches may get from 2 to 5 years in prison.

Deputies of the lower chamber of the parliament have also ratified the Agreement of counter-criminal cooperation between the governments of member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
