Former head of land management committee in Panjakent faces corruption charge

KHUJAND, August 4, 2011, Asia-Plus — Former head of the land management committee in the northern city of Panjakent, A. Otabekov, faces corruption charges.

According to the anticorruption agency’s office in Sughd province, he has illegally allotted land plots for housing to more than 100 residents of the city.

“During the period from 2005 to 2007, acting in collusion with Ch.S., specialist for the state unitary enterprise, Kuhsor, Otabekov illegally allotted land plots to 103 local residents for housing,” the source said.

According to him, damage caused by Otabekov to the city’s economy has been estimated at 358,000 somoni.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Otabekov under the provisions of three articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code: Article 261 – registration of illegal land transactions; Article 316 – misuse of powers; and Article 323 – service forgery.  An investigation is under way.
