DUSHANBE, December 29, 2008, Asia-Plus — Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev is dissatisfied with the process of implementation of the Law on Observing National Traditions and Rituals in the city. He has assessed work of the city commission for observing national traditions and rituals as unsatisfactory.
On Monday December 29, Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev held a meeting to discuss celebrations prepared to mark the New Year holiday in the city.
The meeting participants included senior representatives of the Dushanbe mayor’s office, community committees, and heads of relevant municipal services and the city law enforcement agencies.
According to Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor, during the meeting it was decided to hold elections of head of the city’s microryaon and community (mahalla) communities in the first quarter of 2009. The mayor noted that elections should be free, open and democratic.
Ubaidulloyev expressed dissatisfaction with the process of implementation of the Law on Observing National Traditions and Rituals in the city and assessed work of the city commission for observing national traditions and rituals as unsatisfactory.
The mayor demanded at the meeting that the law enforcement agencies should take adequate measures to ensure public order during the New Year’s celebrations in the city.
During the meeting, it was also noted that that 550 veterans of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 living in Dushanbe will receive an extraordinary grant of 160 somoni each on occasion of the New Year holiday, Saidov said.
