Tajikistan’s RCS turns 81

DUSHANBE, December 24, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Yesterday Tajikistan’s Red Crescent Society (RCS) turned 81.

 

Tajikistan’s RCS now has more than 6,000 members and more than 10,000 volunteers across the country.

It is the only organization in Tajikistan that has 69 city and district branches and some 1,000 primary structures  in all villages and districts of the country, a statement released by the RCS Chief Secretary Zafar Muhabbatov on December 23 said.

As integral part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, RCS renders assistances to all vulnerable people, providing access to safe drinking water, training in providing first aid, responding to emergencies, preventing HIV/AIDS and TB, as well as distributing medicines, providing assistance to elderly people who do not have realties to support, and implementing programs to promote alleviation of poverty in the country, the statement said.
