DUSHANBE, December 24, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT) has submitted the proposal on state guarantee for part of population’s deposits for consideration to the government, the NBT head Sharif Rahimzoda said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the country’s banking system remains comparatively sable; however, for the purpose of preventing possible problems in the financing system of the country and supporting and stimulating increase in population’s deposits, the central bank has made a number of proposals on improving the system of insurance of deposits and ensuring state guarantee for part of population’s deposits.

“The National Bank jointly with the Fund for Guaranteeing Deposits of Physical Entities, the Association of Banks of Tajikistan and commercial banks is currently working out a draft law on guaranteeing deposits of physical entities,” Rahimzoda said.

In the meantime, in a report released at a press conference in Dushanbe, Nematjon Bouriyev, Senior Adviser to the President for Economic Matters, noted at the end of last week that the government is keeping up with effects of the global financial crisis and “will be ready to address challenges.”  According to him, an anti-crisis commission has been set up in the country.  “This commission is headed by Prime Minister Oqil Oqilov,” the senior adviser said.
