More than 13,330 crimes reported in Tajikistan in Jan-Sep 2011

DUSHANBE, October 19, 2011, Asia-Plus — More than 13,300 crimes have been registered in Tajikistan over the first nine months of this year, the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan reports.

More 11,400 crimes, or 85 percent of the overall number of crimes reported over the report period, have been registered by the Ministry of Interior.  The remaining more than 1,900 crimes have been registered by other law enforcement agencies.

More than 2,600 serious crimes have reported in the country over the report period, which is 38 percent more than in the same period last year.

Compared to January-September 2010 the number of reported bribery-related crimes has risen 3.3 times, the number of reported cases of robbery has risen 1.8 times, the number of fraud cases has risen 1.6 times, the number of deliberate murders and attempted murders has increased by 7.5 percent, hooliganism cases have increased by 1.3 percent and pillage cases have increased by 0.7 percent.

Compared to January-September 2010 there was a 5.3 percent increase in the number of reported crimes involving the manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, and use of drugs.

The number of economic crimes has also increased over the report period.  In January-September 2011, more than 2,100 economic crimes have been reported in Tajikistan, which is 2.1 times more than in the same period last year.

Some 92 percent of all the reported crimes have been solved over the first nine months of this year compared to 88.7 percent in January-September 2010.
