KULOB, November 4, 2011, Asia-Plus — A new power transmission line will be constructed in the Dashti Jum area of the Shouroobod district, Khatlon province.
“In connection with the construction of the Tajik-Afghan bridge across the Panj River in the Dashti Jum area as well as at least two bridges in the framework of the project dedicated to rehabilitate the road from Kulob to Shouroobod, the electricity network in Dashti Jum will also be rehabilitated,” Mirzo Ismoilov, the director the Kulob power supply network, told Asia-Plus in an interview.
According to him, specialists are currently making appropriate calculations of the power transmission line. “Electricity requirements will increase in the area due to construction of the bridges and rehabilitation of the road,” Ismoilov noted.
According to him, they plan to construct a separate substation and install more powerful transformers in the area. “Operating power transmission line has been repaired recently,” the Kulob power supply network director added.
We will recall that Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Afghan Minister of Public Works Abdul Qudus Hamidi, and His Highness the Aga Khan, founder and Chairman of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), performed the foundation stone ceremony for the Shouroobod Bridge in the Dashti Jum area on October 31.
When completed, the Shouroobod Bridge will connect rural, mountainous and isolated communities living along the borders of Tajikistan and Afghanistan. The bridge will be 162 meters in length, measure 3.5 meters in width and have a load capacity of 30 metric tons. Construction is expected to be completed at the end of 2012.
