KULOB, December 12, 2008, Asia-Plus — Farming unit in four cotton-growing districts of Khatlon’s Kulob region have repaid 4,183,269 somoni to Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank), which is more than 50 percent of loans provided by the bank to them for the 2008 cotton sowing and harvesting campaign, Asia-Plus has learned from Rajabali Kulabekov, an agronomy expert with Amonatbonk’s regional office in Kulob.

“In all, the bank has funded production of cotton from an area of 5,977.9 hectares,” Kulabekov said, noting that Farkhor tops the Kulob cotton-growing districts in repayment of loans to the bank.

According to him Farkhor cotton growers have repaid 2,188,875 of 3,755,000 somoni to Amonatbonk so far.

“The Vose cotton farmers have received 2,672,777 somoni in loans from the bank; they have repaid 1,174,965 somoni to this date,” said the agronomy expert, “Cotton-growing farms in the Hamadoni district have also repaid more than 50 percent of loans to the bank.  Cotton farmers in the Kulob districts have received 438,584 somoni in loans from Amonatbonk and they have repaid 188,875 somoni so far.”
