DUSHANBE, December 12, 2008, Asia-Plus — The global financial crisis has resulted in the volumes of labor migrants’ remittances to Tajik banks decreasing.
According to the money transfer department within Agroinvestbonk, which is one of Tajikistan’s largest commercial banks, more than 857 million US dollar have been remitted to the bank in January-November this year.
“Over the last three months $254 million have been remitted to Agroinvestbonk,” said the source, “Compared to October the volumes of remittances in November decreased by some 15 percent.” He named the global financial crisis as possible reason for decrease.
The volumes of remittances to Tojiksodirotbonk (TSB) have decreased as well. According to the deputy head of the TSB department for passive transactions Fazliddin Najmiddinov, compared to October the remittance volumes in November decreased by 25 percent.
Decrease in the remittance volumes has also been reported in Amonatbonk (Tajikistan’s savings bank). According to Amonatbonk, compared to October the remittance volumes in November decreased by 20 percent.
