President holds telephone conversations with governors to discuss preparations for spring sowing campaign
DUSHANBE, December 12, 2008, Asia-Plus — Thursday afternoon, President Emomali Rahmon had telephone conversations with Sughd and Khatlon governors to discuss regions’ economic results in 2008 and preparations for the spring sowing campaign, according to presidential press service.
During the conversations, the president pointed to the necessity of properly completing the autumn sowing campaign and a special attention was given to efficient use of greenhouses for growing vegetables during winter months and planting early potatoes and vegetables under plastic film.
The Sughd governor Qohir Rasoulzoda, in particular, noted that the autumn grain sowing campaign in the province has been carried out on an area of 60,215 hectares so far, which is 87.4 percent of the target.
The Khatlon governor Ghaybullo Avzalov noted that they have planted winter crops on an area of 98,752 hectares to this date, which is 88 percent of the target.
Sughd farmers have planted early vegetables on 544 hectares this year, and Khatlon farmers have planted early vegetables on an area of 1,871 hectares – 68 and 50.5 percent respectively.
The governors also reported on measures taken to ensure regular work of regions’ economies during the winter season, the press service said.
