KHUJAND, January 21, 2012, Asia-Plus — In 2011, 40 residents of the Tajik northern province of Sughd, including five women, were detained abroad for drug trafficking, Halimjon Mahmoudov, the head of the Drug Control Agency (DCA)’s office in Sughd, told reporters in Khujand on January 20.
185 kilograms of narcotics, including 125 kilograms of heroin, were confiscated from them, Mahmoudov said, noting that 63 residents of Sughd were arrested abroad for drug trafficking in 2010 and 215 kilograms of narcotics were confiscated them.
According to him, four foreigners, including three nationals of Kyrgyzstan and one Russian citizen – members of one organized drug-trafficking group – were arrested in Sughd for drug trafficking last year. 56 kilograms of heroin were confiscated from them.
