DUSHANBE, February 10, 2012, Asia-Plus  — The Dushanbe mayor’s office has returned draft document on new public transport fares as requiring improvement.

Dushanbe Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev held a meeting on February 9 to discuss issues related to regulation of the public transport traffic and fares.

The meeting participants included municipal officials, members of the Dushanbe legislature and senior representatives of passenger transport enterprises.

Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor’s office, noted that a draft document on new public transport fares worked out by relevant municipal agencies and coordinated with the Anti-Monopoly Agency under the Government of Tajikistan was a major topic of the meeting.

“The mayor returned the draft document as requiring improvement.  He justified his decision by saying that offered public transport fares do not meet requirements of social protection of separate sections of the population,” the spokesman said.

The mayor ordered relevant municipal agencies to consider this issue within the next two weeks and submit the revised draft document for repeated consideration.
