2000 card operated electricity meters will be delivered to Kulob in early May this year.

These meters will replace current electricity meters, the Kulob Power Department told the AP.

“We have a dormitory area and four streets in Kulob the population of which never pays more than 30% of the electricity fee,” the source said, stressing that new meters will be installed in this area first and later on will appear in all other parts of the city. The concerns over non-payment of electricity fees appeared long time ago. According to the city’s energy service, the population’s electricity debt almost reached 20mln Somoni.

“We will be able to cut this debt as people will be forced to purchase electricity cards and use the power accordingly,” the source has said.
