Ahead of the second session of the Committee for Interparliamentary Cooperation between Tajikistan and European Union, which is due today in the second half of the day, Speaker of the Lower Chamber of Tajikistan’s Parliament Shukurjon Zuhurov met with a group of deputies of the European Parliament headed by Paolo Bertalozzi.

In the beginning of the meeting Sh.Zuhurov noted that despite quite strong ties between Tajik and European parliaments this is the first time when delegation of high-ranked EP officials visit Tajikistan, a spokesman for the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of Tajikistan Muhammadato Sultonov told AP.

He expressed confidence that the results of this visit will give a new impulse to the development of bilateral relations.

Lower Chamber’s speaker told the visitors about parliamentary procedures and stressed that primary attention is given to democratic reforms, human rights reforms and reforms of judicial system.

“Zuhurov stressed that experience of European parliamentarians will help their Tajik colleagues,” Sultonov has said.

Paolo Bertalozzi said that the European Parliament is familiar with Tajikistan’s achievements in these spheres and expressed EP’s willingness to cooperate with Tajik parliamentarians in any possible directions.
