KULOB, November 19, 2008, Asia-Plus — Over the first ten months of this year, 865 new cases of tuberculosis have been detected in all the ten districts of Khatlon’ Kulob region with a total population of 957,572, which is 70 cases more than in the same period of last year, Asia-Plus has learned at the Kulob Center for Sanitary-Epidemiologic Supervision.  

The source noted that serious situation was reported in the city and the district of Kulob, where 253 new cases of TB had been detected this year.   “Although it is 47 cases fewer than last year, however, the TB rate of 142.6 new cases per100,000 is very high,” the source said, noting that according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the TB rate of 50 new cases per 100,000 could be identified as epidemic.  

Over the report period, 66 new cases of TB have been reported in the Temourmalik district – 117.4 new cases per 100,000, 183 new cases have been reported in Vose – 108.6 per 100,00, 115 new cases have been reported in Hamadoni – 95.6 per 100,000, and 44 new TB cases have been reported in Shuroobod – 91.7 per 100,000.    

The rate of new TB cases below 50 per 100,000 has been reported in Khovaling, where 18 new cases have been detected this year – 40.9 new cases per 100,000 and in Baljuvon, where seven new TB cases have been reported in January-October – 28.1 new cases per 100,000.  

An average rate of new TB cases in the Kulob region is now 90.3 per 100,000, the source said.
