DUSHANBE, November 18, 2008, Asia-Plus — Liquefied-gas shipments to Tajikistan that were suspended tend days ago are expected to resume in late November, Yormahmad Begahmadov, the head of the oil and gas department within the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI), said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
However, he refrained from clarifying the reason for suspension of the liquefied-gas supplies to the country.
According to him, the country’s daily requirements in liquefied gas are up to 40 tons and the limited liability company, Tojiron, and the limited liability company, Gazprom Neft-Tajikistan (it was set up by Gazprom Neft’s subsidiary in Kyrgyzstan, Gazprom Neft-Asia in June 2007) provide the bulk of Tajikistan’s liquefied-gas imports.
It is to be noted that liquefied-gas shortages have affected activity of the passenger transport service in Dushanbe because many fixed-route taxies (minivans) run on liquefied gas. An acute shortage of liquefied gas has been experienced in the city over the past weeks and many liquefied-gas refueling stations have been closed.
Asia-Plus has failed to get information about the reason for suspension of liquefied-supplies to the country in Tojiron, while phones of Gazprom Neft-Tajikistan’s head office in Tajikistan are cut off for nonpayment.
