Emomali Rahmon expected to pay visit to Ukraine in early December

DUSHANBE, November 18, 2008, Asia-Plus  — President Emomali Rahmon is expected to pay an official visit to Ukraine on December 3-5, presidential press service said.  

Heads of the economic bloc ministries, foreign minister, and senior representatives of president’s office will accompany Rahmon on his visit to Ukraine.  

During his stay in Kiev, President Rahmon is scheduled to hold talks with his Ukrainian counterpart, President Viktor Yushchenko, Prime Minister Yulia Timoshenko, as well as representatives of business circles of Ukraine.  

The sides are supposed to discuss state and prospects of further expansion of bilateral cooperation between the countries and the course of implementation of bilateral agreements reached during Yushchenko’s visit to Dushanbe on March 5-7 2008. 

Rahmon’s visit to Ukraine is expected to result in signing of  a number of bilateral cooperation agreements between Tajikistan and Ukraine.  

We will recall that Tajik-Ukrainian negotiations in Dushanbe ended with signing of 10 bilateral cooperation documents.  

 Emomali Rahmon and Viktor Yushchenko, inked two documents – the Joint Statement and the Plan of Tajikistan-Ukraine Actions for 2008-2009.  Besides, ministries and organizations of the two countries signed eight cooperation agreements: government-to-government agreement on aerial communication; a protocol on exchange of notes on ratification of an agreement on friendship and cooperation; a protocol on exchange of notes on ratification of an agreement on transfer of convicted persons for further serving sentences; an agreement between the Tajik agency for construction and architecture and the Ukrainian ministry of regional development and construction on mutual recognition of state licenses for construction activities;  a cooperation agreement between the Tajik Sughd province and the Ukrainian Dneprotetrovsk region;  a memorandum between the Tajik ministry of energy and industries and the Ukrainian ministry of industrial policy; a memorandum between the Tajik ministry of energy and industries and the Ukrainian ministry of energy and fuel; and a protocol to the plan of actions on expansion of cooperation between the Tajik ministry of energy and industries and the Ukrainian ministry for industrial policy in the field of nonferrous metallurgy.
