DUSHANBE, July 27, 2012, Asia-Plus – Warrant officer of one of military units deployed in Khatlon’s Vose district was detained by officers from the Drug Control Agency (DCA) on July 27 on suspicion of having been involved in drug pushing, the DCA press center reports.

A wrap of narcotic drug tested positive to hashish weighing several grams was confiscated from him, the source said.  Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the warrant officer and an investigation is under way.

Over the first six months of this year, Tajik law enforcement authorities have reportedly sized 3,383 kilograms of narcotics.  A totaled included some 364 kilograms of heroin, some 400 kilograms of raw opium and more than 2,615 kilograms of cannabis.

The counternarcotics agency itself has seized more than 300 kilograms of narcotics, including 237 kilograms of cannabis, over the report period.
