DUSHANBE, August 18, 2012, Asia-Plus – Popularity of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP) has reportedly risen in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) after the Khorog events.

A large number of residents of Gorno Badakhshan has applied to the IRP in recent day, asking to admit them into the party, Ms. Muslima Broimshoyeva, leader of IRP’s organization in Gorno Badakhshan, told Asia-Plus in an interview.

“They are mostly women and young people,” said Broimshoyeva.  “I think that one of the main factors for increasing number of residents of Gorno Badakhshan wanting to join our party is the fact that during the conflict, the IRP was always supporter of stopping the special operation and ensuring security of civilians.  We have declared for preservation of stability in the region.”

We will recall that the previous head of IRP’s organization in Gorno Badakhshan Sabzali Mamadrizoyev was reported missing after the special operation was launched in Khorog on July 24 and his body was found on July 26 with multiple gunshot wounds.  On August 2, the Islamic Revival Party (IRP) applied to the Prosecutor-General Sherkhon Salimzoda, requesting to launch investigation into the murder of Sabzali Mamadrizoyev.

As of January 1, 2012, IRP’s organization in Gorno Badakhshan reportedly had 3,000 members.
