DUSHANBE, September 26, 2012, Asia-Plus – The 14th Network Meeting of Stakeholder Organizations on Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation took place in Dushanbe on September 26.  

According to TajWSS project, guiding principles for establishing drinking water tariff systems were presented by Ms. Marie Korner, Independent International Consultant for the TWG on tariffs who has been working closely with all the relevant agencies and ministries last month trying to make the future establishment of the tariff for drinking water supply appropriate for all Tajikistan consumers.

Update on the progress of the National Program on Improvement of Clean Water Supply for the Population of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period from 2007-2020  was made by the Ministry of Land Reclamation and Water Resources (LRWR).

One of the active members of the TajWSS Network – USAID Tajikistan Safe Drinking Water Project is on the finish line and it shared the results, achievements and lessons learned from their rich experience in drinking water supply.

Construction works are in full swing now in Muminobod and Mr. Toir Amirshoev, the frist deputy head of the Muminobod district, shared the presentation titled “In Muminodod Single Window, Water Trust Fund and Construction are up and running with the update from the field.”

“TajWSS Network Open Floor” — a new fixed item in the agenda was introduced to the members in the course of the previous Network meeting and proved to raise hot discussions about the last significant steps taken by the Government of Tajikistan in forming institutional framework for the management and operation in the drinking water subsector.  That’s why it was decided to keep this section in the agenda open and find out what other issues are under concern of TajWSS Network members.

This project is funded by the Government of Switzerland through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). SDC is responsible for the overall coordination of development activities and cooperation with Eastern Europe, as well as for the humanitarian aid delivered by the Swiss Confederation.  SDC is part of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).

This project is implemented by Oxfam.  Oxfam works with others to overcome poverty and suffering.  Oxfam GB is a member of Oxfam International.
