KHUJAND, November 7, 2208, Asia-Plus — A child crisis center in Khujand, established on an initiative of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission to Tajikistan and Tajikistan’s Republican Inter-agency Commission for Combating human Rights, has provided assistance to 48 local children, who had become victims of violence and labor exploitation.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the center chairperson, Ms. Rafoat Boboyeva, noted that those children were orphans or from single-parent families.
“The children were involved in begging or washing cars and working in bazaars,” said Boboyeva, “However, they usually were not paid wages.” According to her, these cases were revealed during raids maid by police officers on bazaars and police officers sent those children to the center.
“In out center, they have undergone psychological rehabilitation,” said Boboyeva. “At present there are five children in the center and they will stay here from seven to ten months, depending on their health and psychological condition. Here, they will be trained in some specialties to earn their living.”
