DUSHANBE, November 14, 2012, Asia-Plus — A delegation of the Islamic Revival Party (IRP), led by its leader, Muhiddin Kabiri, attended an international conference entitled “Muslim Ummah Unity” that took place in Islamabad on November 11-12.
IRP’s head office in Dushanbe says that in a statement delivered at the conference, Muhiddin Kabiri called on the conference participants to pay more attention to cooperation between the countries of the Muslim world in the fields of economy, communications, culture and trade.
IRP leader reportedly offered to establish an international union of Islamic parties so that they could use experience of each other for development of their countries and peoples.
“Speaking at the conference, Kabiri also noted that one of the main reasons for intensification of activities of religious and secular extremists in the Muslim world is the fact the representatives of traditional Islam and secular way of development are inferior to them in organizing work with people and international community,” the source said.
On the sidelines of the conference, the IRP delegation held talks with delegations from Turkey, Malaysia, Afghanistan and Pakistan as well as prominent Islamic figures and Tajik students studying in Pakistan, the source added.
Founded in October 1990, the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan was registered on December 4, 1991. It was banned by the Supreme Court in June 1993 and legalized in August 1999. Its official newspaper is
Najot
(Salvation). According to some sources, IRP now has some 25,000-30,000 members. It won two seats in the 2010 parliamentary elections. The Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan is the only Islamic party registered in CIS Central Asia.
