Russian teachers have not arrived in Tajikistan

Date:

DUSHANBE, November 17, 2012, Asia-Plus — Russian-language teachers from Russian have not arrived in Tajikistan for unknown reasons, a source at the Ministry of Education (MoE) told Asia-Plus on Saturday.

Under an agreement between the Ministry of Education of Tajikistan and the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia, Russia was supposed to send some 300 Russian-language teachers to Tajikistan to teach local children.  They were expected to arrive in the country in summer and local authorities had to provide them with accommodation.  However, they did not arrive.

“May be it happened because Russian minister of education has been replaced,” said the source, “We signed the agreement with Andrey Fursenko in April but he was replaced with Dmitry Livanov in May, who is probably not aware of the agreement.  This is only a supposition, of course.  We have not yet received an official reply, though we have sent all necessary documents to them.”
