According to information from the Tajik Ministry of Energy (MoE), a memorandum of understanding on this subject was signed during a recent visit of the MoE delegation to

The MoE source says during its stay in

the Tajik delegation discussed with top managers of the Chinese national corporation issues related to the construction of the Shurob hydropower plant and modernization of the Qairoqqum station and participation of


China


’s investments in these projects.  

“The Chinese side has chosen the second project and the issue of financing of modernization of the Qairoqqum station will be solved in near future,” the MoE source said.

The Qairoqqum hydropower plant having capacity of 126,000 kW was constructed in the late Fifties and at present it is functioning only by half of its capacity.
