DUSHANBE, March 10, Asia-Plus  — Changes and addenda enhanced by the Majlisi Namaoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) to the RT Law “On Drugs, Psychotropic Substances and Precursors” do not mean that any persons may obtain any medicinal preparation containing narcotics at his/her wish, Abdulhamid Norov, head of the department for international relations within the Tajik Drug Control Agency (DCA), remarked at a news conference in Dushanbe on March 10 commenting on the bill on amendments to the mentioned law approved by Tajik parliamentarians.

According to him, amendments made to the law are abased on some international conventions ratified by Tajikistan.  Norov noted that to realize such medicinal preparations private chemist’s shops should have licenses given by the Ministry of Health under control of the DCA and the Ministry of Interior.

These medicines will be realized by prescriptions only, and persons, who have convictions of drug trafficking, have no right of working with such medicines.  Besides, chemist’s shops realizing such medicinal preparations should be specially equipped and have iron doors and grills on windows, as well as have a special metal safe for storing the narcotics-containing medicines.

“The private chemist’s shops are given right of realizing, storing and transporting the narcotics-containing medicines only within the country,” the DCA official said, noting that cultivation, export/import and destruction of the narcotics-containing medicines remain under jurisdiction of state.
