DUSHANBE, March 17, Asia-Plus – The construction of the first stage of the Roghun hydroelectric power station in Tajikistan may possibly start already in the second quarter of the year, according to information from the Tajik Ministry of Energy.  

Rashid Gulov, head of the energy policy of the Ministry of Energy, has told Asia-Plus that at present with regard to the made remarks and additions they are reviewing a feasibility study for the construction of the Roghun power plant conducted by Germany’s Lehmeyer.

“Russkii Aluminii” (Russian Aluminum or Rusal) company has begun works on rehabilitation of infrastructure (roads and residential complex) in Roghun,” Mr. Gulov said.  

“For the construction of the first stage of the Roghun station Rusal will provide US$550 million,” Tajik energy official said, noting that the completion of the construction of the Roghun station requires US$2.192 billion.   

“At present the country’s government is negotiating with international financial institutions issues of providing funds for the construction of the second stage,” said Rashid Gulov, “Rusal has expressed wish to participate in all stages of the construction of the Roghun power plant.”
