DUSHANBE, April 20, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s Energy Ministry has denied information posted on the Afghanistan.ru website that Tajikistan allegedly cut off electricity supplies to the Afghan province of Kunduz as “unfounded”.
Nozirjon Yodgori, a spokesman for the energy ministry, has told Asia-Plus that Tajikistan daily supplies 100,000 kWh of electricity to the northern provinces of neighboring Afghanistan.
“This amount of electricity would be enough for providing with electricity the Khovaling district in the Khatlon province,” the energy ministry spokesman noted.
The website Afghanistan.ru has reported that Tajikistan allegedly cut off supply of electricity to the Afghan province of Kunduz. Local authorities were cited as saying that electricity supplies were cut off by the Tajik side for unknown reasons.
According to data of Tajikistan’s State Committee for Statistics, Tajikistan has exported 607.1 million kWh of electric power for an amount of US$9.2 million in January-March this year.
