Within the framework of a special “Poppy-2006” Operation Tajik border troops and officers from the Drug Control Agency (DCA) on Thursday [May 11] jointly seized more than 43 kilograms of marijuana on the Tajik-Afghan border in the Farkhor district, the DCA press service reported.
Avaz Yuldoshev, a spokesman for the DCA, has told Asia-Plus a 35-year-old Afghan citizen Alimuhammad valadi Abdulnazar was detained when he was illegally crossing the border river on a Farkhor stretch of the Tajik-Afghan border late Thursday. More than 43 kilograms of marijuana and firearms were confiscated from him. An investigation is under way.
Since the beginning of this year, the DCA officers have warded off more than 50 attempts of drug trafficking and intercepted some 500 kilograms of drugs, with more than 208 kilograms of them being heroin, according to the DCA spokesman.
