, May 22, Asia-Plus — Under amendments proposed to the RT Laws “On the Press and other Mass Media” and “On Publishing” all state-run and independent media in
Tajikistan
should be reregistered with the Ministry of Culture by the end of this year in order get licenses for their activities.
Mr. Odina Homidov, head of the publishing department within the Ministry of Culture, has told Asia-Plus that bill proposing amendments to the mentioned laws are currently under the consideration in the Majlisi Namoyandagon (
Tajikistan
’s lower chamber of parliament).
“Most likely, parliament will endorse these amendments at its sitting in September,” Mr. Homidov said. “The re-registration of mass media is connected, first of all, with the fact that there is a great number of media in the republic, and major part of them is not actually functioning,” the Culture Ministry official said.
