DUSHANBE, May 23, Asia-Plus — Central executive committee of Mirhusein Narziyev’s wing of the Socialist Party of Tajikistan (SPT) today released an appeal to leaders of political parties active in Tajikistan calling for setting up an inter-party commission to study conflict around the SPT and give unbiased political and legal assessment to it.

“Over the past several years, especially ahead of important political campaigns, some interested circles and officials have openly interfered in internal affairs of the SPT,” a statement released by Narziyev’s wing said.  “The main purpose of such actions is in undermining authority of the party’s leadership and barring the SPT from participation in the country’s political events, including the presidential election due to November this year,” the statement said.

Narziyev’s wing of SPT claims that the Justice Ministry has violated Tajikistan’s Law “On Political Parties” and Civil Code and recognized the “artificial group” [SPT wing headed by A. Ghafforov] “that has submitted forged documents for registration.”

“Such problems facing the SPT are a signal of alarm for other political parties,” says the statement, “Silence of other political parties is increasing the possibility of such ordeals’ facing them that may hurt their independence…”
