DUSHANBE, June 3, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan plans to supply more than 1.5 billion kWh of electric power generated by its largest hydroelectric power station Norak to other countries by the end of the summer and autumn season, engineer-in-chief at the “Barqi Tojik” (Tajik electric systems) open joint-stock company holding company, Rashid Gulov said.
According to him, Russia, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan intend to import Tajik electricity this year.
But electricity supplies to Russia and Kazakhstan depend on capacities of power systems of Uzbekistan, via power-transmission lines of which electricity will be exported.
According to Mr. Gulov, Tajikistan is currently supplying electric power only to Uzbekistan. Gulov says that under an agreement reached between the two countries Tajikistan will supply to Uzbekistan some 900 million kWh of electricity by end of the summer and autumn season. “A daily rate of electricity supplies to Uzbekistan amounts to 10 million kWh,” Gulov noted.
“According to the agreement between our countries, Uzbekistan supplies electricity to Tajikistan in the autumn-winter season at the rate of US$0.15 per one kWh and Tajikistan supplies electricity to Uzbekistan in the summer period at the rate of US$0.01 per one kWh,” the Asia-Plus interlocutor said.
According to figures provided by the State Committee for Statistics, Tajikistan has exported 824.6 million kWh of electricity for US$12.4 million in January-April of this year, and electricity imports to Tajikistan over the same four-month period have amounted to 2.1397 billion kWh for US$35.7 million.
Over the first four months of this year, production of electricity in Tajikistan has reduced by 23.4 percent and amounted to 4.268 billion kWh.
In the meantime, according to Gulov, Tajikistan produced 17 billion kWh of electric power in 2005 and according to expert estimates, generation of electricity in the country this year will exceed the last year’s indices.
