DUSHANBE, June 3, Asia-Plus — On Friday June 2, MFI “Humo” opened its first micro lending unit in the Yovon district of Khatlon under the support of GTZ (German Technical Cooperation Agency).  

Mr. Angela Popova, the “Humo” office manager, has told Asia-Plus that the unit will provide micro loans to small businesses.  According to her, “Humo” provides financial services for development of small and medium-sized businesses, enhancement of production and processing of agricultural output and development of trade in Tajikistan. 

According to information from the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT), at present 33 non-bank MFIs operate in Tajikistan.

The MFI “Humo” was founded by the international organization CARE International in Tajikistan in November 2004.  In March last year, Tajik central bank gave “Humo” certificate for lending activity.  “Humo” is one of the first MFIs officially registered in Tajikistan.
