DUSHANBE, June 28, Asia-Plus – Beginning on June 30, citizens of Tajikistan, mainly ethnic Kyrgyz, who arrived in Kyrgyzstan following militant and political conflict in Tajikistan 1993-1997, will not be considered refugees any more.

ended in 1997 and at present political situation and a general human rights situation in

are recognized to be stable.

’s president signed an appropriate edict on this subject,” the source said, noting that those wanting to stay in

permanently now should receive Kyrgyz citizenship.   They may receive Kyrgyz citizenship in accordance with simplified procedure, lodging applications for citizenship through a network of NGOs till September 2006.
