DUSHANBE, July 5, Asia-Plus — A court in the Ismoili Somoni district in Dushanbe has given ruling allowing Tajik Journalists’ Union to resume its activity, new head of the Tajik Union of Journalists, Akbarali Sattorov.

The Journalists’ Union was re-registered with the Ministry of Justice on June 24.

“In near future, we plan to re-register all members of the Union,” Mr. Sattorov said.

We will recall that the court in early April this year halted the activities of the Tajik Union of Journalists for three months.  The court argued that the Union”s charter violates provisions of Tajik law.  The Justice Ministry said that the union was informed of the problems in its charter in early March and ignored a request to rectify them. The Justice Ministry warned that the Union would be dissolved if it failed to resolve the problem in three months

An extraordinary congress of the Tajik Journalists’ Union held in Dushanbe on June 17 elected Akbarali Sattorov the Union’s chairman.
