Ms. Sitora Sherova, Chairperson of the Committee for Family and Women’s Affairs, remarked this at a news conference in


Dushanbe


on July 14.  

According to her, at present women constitute more than 15 percent of high-ranking officials in the country’s government.  “In 2001, this index made 11.5 percent,” Ms. Sherova said.  

Ms. Sherova noted that women have activating in other spheres of the country’s social life as well.  “Women now constitute 24 percent of civil servants in

,” noted she, “A large number of women is working in the country’s education sector (47 percent), judicial system (36 percent), entrepreneurship ()39 percent, telecommunications sector (36 percent) and transportation (21 percent).” 

Speaking to journalists, the Women’s Committee head also noted that more than 24 unemployed women had applied for jobs to the employment centers since the beginning of this year.  “More than 4,000 of them have been placed in jobs, and 4,500 other women have been drawn into public works,” Sitora Sherova said.  

“The Committee in cooperation with non-government organizations has set up 86 mini production shops for young women in the republic,” Ms. Sherova added.
