DUSHANBE, August 14, Asia-Plus – The Board (Shuro) of Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament (Majlisi Namoyandagon) has considered an amnesty bill and recommended it to top the agenda of the Majlisi Namoyandagon extraordinary session set for August 17. 

A sitting of the Board of the Majlisi Namoyandagon presided over by the Majlisi Namoyandagon head, Saydullo Khairulloyev, was held on August 14.  

Muhammadato Sultonov, a spokesman for Tajik parliament, has told Asia-Plus that the board’s members pointed out humane initiative of the president ahead of the 15

anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence.  According to Mr. Sultonov, the amnesty bill consisting of 22 articles applies to elderly, young and sick prisoners who are serving sentences for minor crimes.

  “The board recommended to introduce the amnesty bill to the extraordinary session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon that will be held on August 17,” the Asia-Plus interlocutor.
