DUSHANBE, September 26, Asia-Plus – The Islamic Party of Tajikistan has applied to President Rahmonov with solicitation to give  tile of Hero of Tajikistan the late party leader Said Abdullo Nuri.   

A statement released by the party today says the party has made such a decision taking into consideration “unique personality of Said Abdullo Nuri and his invaluable contribution to the process of reestablishment of peace and national accord in Tajikistan.”

The statement, in particular, stresses that leading analytical and political centers across the world have highly appraised activity of the religious party led by Said Abdullo Nuri in secular society.  Tajik experience in reestablishment of peace, to which Nuri made a great contribution, is recommended  as a unique example, according to the statement.   

Said Abdullo Nuri, the leader of the opposition Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan, died on August 8 in Dushanbe after a long illness.  Nuri was one of the leaders of the armed opposition during Tajikistan”s civil war in 1992-97.  He joined President Emomali Rahmonov”s coalition government after the 1997 peace agreement, chairing its national reconciliation commission.
