DUSHANBE, November 1, Asia-Plus – Tajikistan has reached 75 percent of its autumn conscription target, according to the Ministry of Defense (MoD).

A source at a MoD said that Gorno Badakhshan tops the regions of Tajikistan in the conscription campaign, fulfilling its target on the autumn conscription.

According to the source, at present a number of young men of the call-up age in the country reaches 600,000 people. “Of them, only some 400,000 have been registered with the military recruitment offices,” said, noting that of those 400,000 young men registered with the recruitment offices, the third are exempted from the military service for different reasons.

Another 100,000-120,000 conscript-age young men are outside the republic, seeking migrant work, mainly in the Russian Federation, the source said.

The autumn conscription campaign was launched on October 1 and runs through November 30.  The draft affects able-bodied male citizens in the age bracket of 18 years old to 27 years old, who are not members of the armed forces reserve.  Tajikistan’s law on military service provides an exemption from military service for a certain categories of citizens.
