DUSHANBE, November 2, Asia-Plus — 52 cotton-ginning factories in Tajikistan have processed more than 126,000 tons or more than 30 percent of this year’s cotton harvest by November 1, according to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA).
A source in a MoA said that a total volume of the processed cotton had yielded 41,500 tons of cotton fiber and 72,300 tons of seeds. According to him, 31 cotton-ginning factories in Khatlon have processed more than 72,000 tons of cotton, 16 cotton-ginning factories in Sughd some 36,900 tons of cotton, and five cotton-ginning factories in the districts subordinate to the center (RRP) some 17,000 tons of cotton.
According to Tajikistan’s Commodity and Raw Materials Exchange, today the price of one ton of cotton-fiber fluctuates from US$895 to US$1,600, depending on type of cotton fiber.
According to MoA, Tajikistan has gathered more than 415,000 tons of cotton by November 1, which is 76 percent of this year’s target determined at 547,000 tons of cotton.
Districts subordinate to the center have yielded 47,100 tons of cotton to this day, which is 100.9 percent of their target. Their target is 47,000 tons of cotton.
Cotton-growing farms in the Khatlon province have pledged to produce 329,000 tons of cotton this year. They have gathered 243,800 tons of cotton by November 1, which is 74.1 percent of the target.
Sughd has yielded 124,800 tons of cotton by November 1, which is 72.9 percent of the target determined at 171,300 tons of cotton.
