DUSHANBE, November 11, Asia-Plus — People having fresh ideas and views should come to the government, Rahmatullo Valiyev, the deputy head of the Mahmadruzi Iskandarov-run Democratic Party (DPT), said, commenting on the possible government shake-up in Tajikistan after the presidential election.

According to him, at least 85%-90% of the government officials should be shuffled.  “It should be a real renovation of the Cabinet but not just a lateral movement of officials,” Valiyev said.

If a newly elected president wants to get higher economic growth he has to form the new government from competent persons.  “It is desirable that the government reform should be carried out at all levels – from the prime minister to local authorities,” the DPT deputy head noted.

As far as a candidate for prime minister is concerned, Valiyev considers that Tajikistan has enough skilled personnel that could be appointed to this position.  He also pointed to the necessity of fighting corruption and regionalism.
