DUSHANBE, November 28, Asia-Plus — A total amount of insurance fees collected by Tajik insurance agents over the first nine months of this year has been US$13,617,300, which is 2.2 times more compared to the same period of last year, Sanovabr Homidova, chairperson of Tajikistan’s service for insurance supervision of the Ministry of Finance, announced at a two-day meeting of the council of the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC) heads of insurance organizations that opened in Dushanbe today.  

According to her, an insurance market in Tajikistan is developing well.  Homidova noted that at present 14 organizations share insurance market in the republic.  “Of them, Tojiksughurta and Tojiksramoyaguzor are the state-run companies and the other 12 are private, including one with participation of foreign capital,” Homidova said.  

The meeting participants include representatives from Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.  Armenian participants are attending the meeting as observers.

 During two days, the meeting is aiming to consider issues related to bringing national insurance laws of member nations of the Community into compliance with international principles of regulating and supervising activity of insurance companies, projecting efficient systems of insurance and reinsurance of risks by the EAEC companies.  Participants at the meeting will also discuss a plan of activity of the council’s working groups in 2007-2008.
