DUSHANBE, December 19, Asia-Plus – Ministers of Kyrgyzstan’s government headed by Felix Kulov have resigned, Kyrgyzstan national new agency Kabar reported.
The decision was reached at an extraordinary meeting of the cabinet today, and all ministers in attendance reportedly voted for the decision unanimously, according to Kabar.
Prime Minister Felix Kulov was quoted as saying that he will submit a resignation application to President Kurmanbek Bakiyev today.
The ministers said that the decision is a result the situation stemming from the country’s recently adopted constitution. They stated that they want to create conditions necessary for “full-blooded work of the new edition of Kyrgyzstan’s constitution,” especially as there was no constructive dialogue between the government and the parliament.
In the meantime, Radio Liberty’s Kyrgyz Service reported that earlier today, Bakiyev dismissed Tuygunaly Abdraimov as chairman of the Central Election Commission. A decree posted on the presidential website says Abdraimov has asked to be relieved from his duties and that he will be temporarily replaced with Aychurek Eshimova. The reasons for the reshuffle are unclear. Commission spokeswoman Nina Mukhina told Radio Liberty that Abdraimov would be transferred to another job.
