DUSHANBE, December 28, Asia-Plus – The 32

nd

session of the CIS Economic Council yesterday endorsed a draft agreement on the establishment of a common energy market within the CIS area, according to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT). 

Tajikistan was represented at the session by Fayzullo Kholboboyev, Tajikistan’s Permanent Representative to the CIS Economic Council.  

A source at a MoEDT said that the agreement will be submitted for consideration to the CIS Council of heads of governments who are scheduled to meet in the first half-year of 2007.

The agreement will allow setting up the common market of electrical power that will be based on the principles mutual benefit and confidence, according to the source.   

According to the CIS energy council, a total capacity of all hydroelectric power stations operating within the CIS area amounts to 325,000 megawatt.  

The CIS economic council yesterday considered 25 issues concerning implementation of concepts of development of social and medical foundations of improvement of quality of life of veterans of war, social and legal security of personnel of the CIS peacekeeping force, etc.  

At this session, Russian handed over CIS economic council chairmanship to Tajikistan, the MoEDT source said.
