DUSHANBE, December 30, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan exceeded the 2006 target on honey.  

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection (MoAEP), all categories of beekeeping farms in 2006 produced the targeted 1,272 tons of honey and produced an additional 364 tons.

A source at a MoAEP said under the national beekeeping development program for 2006-2010 the government annually provides 150,000 somonis for promoting development of the beekeeping sector.   The source added that all categories of beekeeping farms beekeepers last year increased number of beehives from 49,000 to 117,000, while under the last year’s target the number of beehives in the republic was scheduled to be increased to 63,527. 

By 2010, a total number of beehives in Tajikistan is scheduled to have reached 156,000.
