DUSHANBE, January 8, Asia-Plus – Director of the dining-car at the train Dushanbe-Moscow, Khairullo Mahmadshoyev has been arrested on suspicion of having been involved in drug trafficking, Tajik transportation police said. 

The transportation police source said that officers from the transportation police on January 7 found 4.71 kilograms of heroin hidden in the dining-car’s refrigerator on . 

In 2006, the Tajik traffic police intercepted 374 kilograms of drugs, including more than 313 kilograms of heroin, 42 kilograms of raw opium, 14.4 kilograms of cannabis and 440 grams of hashish.  Last year, the transportation police officers arrested 91people on drug charges, including eight women.  

The same day, officers from the Interior Ministry’s department for combating drug trafficking (drug police) sized 9.4 kilograms of hashish in Kulob.  The hashish was confiscated from local resident Farhod Qalandarov, according to the source.  

In all, Tajik law-enforcement authorities seized 4,789 kilograms of narcotics in 2006, according to Interior Ministry statistics.  Of this amount, 2,442 kilograms of drugs were intercepted by police.
