DUSHANBE, January 26, Asia-Plus – A roundtable meeting to discuss a draft medium-term strategy of development of the banking system in Tajikistan will be held in Dushanbe tomorrow, according to the National Bank of Tajikistan (NBT).

A source at Tajik central bank said that the strategy had been projected as part of the national Tajikistan development strategy for 2015 and determines priorities and main directions of development of the banking sector in the country to provide sustainable economic growth, reduction of poverty and improvement of living level of the population.

“Despite some positive trends, there are still factors impeding further development of the banking sector in the country,” the source said, naming lack of effective monetary market, insufficient level of corporate management of financial organizations and low level of capitalization of the banking systems and monetization as such factors.

The medium-term strategy, in particular, notes that funds remitted by labor migrants to Tajik banks pave the way for increase in domestic savings.

Experts expect a role of banking sector in development of the country’s economy to increase and financial sustainability and transparency will be provided.
