KHOROG, February 8, Asia-Plus – Deputy Prime Minister, Asadullo Ghulomov presided over a meeting of the GBAO emergency management agency in Khorog on February 7.  The meeting discussed issues related to sudden water flooding

of the Pamir-I hydropower plant that was reported Monday evening.

Telling the meeting, Ghulomov claimed that it cannot be ruled out that the accident had been caused by shortcomings in work of the administration and specialists of PamirEnergy (Pamir Energy Company).

He charged members of the government commission, leaderships of relevant agencies and PamirEnergy to remove effects of the flooding within three days as well as to conduct a full investigation to determine the cause of the flood and those to blame for the accident.

Ghulomov also ordered to assess an extent of damage and amount of materials and cost of work needed to remove the accident’s effects in order to put one of the station’s generators into operation in the coming week.

Ghulomov noted that the government had provided funds for purchasing and delivering 150 tons of coal to the region.  In order to prevent rise in prices of basic food products in Gorno Badakhshan Tojikmatlubot (Tajikistan’s consumer union) will deliver foods products and fuel to the region, according to him.

In the meantime, water from the Pamir-1 generators’ room has been pumped out completely and only generators located in the room’s basement are still under water.
