DUSHANBE, February 15, Asia-Plus — A two-day roundtable meeting dedicated to discuss a progress of the implementation of the UNDP Kyrgyzstan/Tajikistan Cross-Border Project will open in Dushanbe tomorrow.

According to the UNDP Dushanbe Office, the meeting will bring together Tajik and Kyrgyz coordinators to discuss the results of work of evaluation commissions and consider prospects of cross-border cooperation with Uzbekistan.

The project was launched in late 2003 and it is a joint initiative of the UNDP COs in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

The aim of the cross-border project is to reduce isolation, improve trade and communication, and mitigate local tensions and the potential for cross-border conflict in border areas of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

The project is being implemented in seven border districts, including Lailak, Batken and Chonalay in Kyrgyzstan and Isfara, Jabborrasulov, Bobojonghafurov and Jirgatol in Tajikistan.
