DUSHANBE, February 16, Asia-Plus — Ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) has named Mahmadali Vatanov, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court, as its candidate for an April 1 by-election in the Firdavsi single-mandate constituency in Dushanbe to fill a vacant seat after the incumbent MP Sherkhon Salimov was resigned in connection with being appointed to head the country’s anticorruption agency. 

The deadline for nomination of candidates for by-elections set for April 1 is February 25.

Tajikistan’s Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER) said that the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT) also intends to nominate its deputy chairman Umarali Hisainov as candidate for by-election in the Firdavsi constituency.  

Democrats also intend to name their candidate for by-election in the Firdavsi single-member constituency.  The Democratic Party (DPT) is going to nominate its chairman, Masoud Sobirov, as candidate for by-election in this constituency.
