March 12, Asia-Plus – An international three-day conference of Persian-language media started in Dushanbe on March 11.

 Adolat Umarova, editor-in-chief of the Dushanbe independent weekly Millat also one of the conference organizers, said in an interview with Asia-Plus that the main objective of the conference formally titled “Persian-language Media under Conditions of Globalization: Partnership and Distances” is to discuss issues related to creation and development of a single information space for Persian-speaking peoples as well as establishment of an association of Persian-language journalists for free and unbiased coverage of events in Tajikistan and abroad as well as lives of Tajiks and other Persian-speaking peoples.  

Some 60 media representatives from countries such as Iran, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia and Uzbekistan are attending the three-day conference in Dushanbe.  

She added that the conference is expected to find common grounds for future cooperation and promote further expansion of social, cultural and scientific cooperation between the Persian-speaking peoples.     

The conference was staged under support of the Tajik branch of Open Society Institute/Assistance Foundation (OSI/AF).
